Pantherstrike padded through the forest, Leaftail behind him. They came to the stream, hoping to find some prey that had ventured out of their cozy burrows in search of food and water.

Leaftail padded silently behind Pantherstrike. She sniffed and savored in the beautiful scents of the forest. She looked for the smell of the mouthwatering mouse she'd scented.

Pantherstrike halted. Two mice scurried about the base of a small bush up ahead. He flicked his tail toward them, pointing them out to Leaftail. If they did this right, they could catch both of them at the same time.

Leaftail dropped into the right crouch and crept forward on them.

Pantherstirke dropped into his hunter's crouch and matched Leaftail step for step. When they were close enough, he gave the word. "Now," he meowed, keeping his voice so low that only she could hear. Then he sprang forward. The mouse attempted to dart away, but Pantherstrike brought his claws down upon the creature before it could go a whisker-length. He finished it with a quick bite, then looked up, wondering if Leaftail had been as lucky.

Leaftail was watching with the mouse hanging from her jaws by it's tail. She beamed at him. They had some good teamwork going.

"Nice catch," the deputy purred. He started scratching out a dip in the icy ground. "Let's see if we can find anything else before we go back to camp. We'll come back for these." He dropped his mouse where he had scraped away some of the earth, and inclined his head towards it, a signal for her to do the same. They'd cover the prey with a thin layer of dirt to protect it from hungry crows, then they could continue their hunt.
