A black tom stumbled across the field, his black pelt almost lost to the darkness. The scent of blood, anger and fear clung heavily to his stumbling form. His amber eyes were half closed, his paws as heavy as lead, yet his heart felt heavier. Ever since the new law had been made in LeafClan, he hadn't felt that it was safe there or that it was his home; the fight with Sharpstar had only strengthened that. He paused to lick at one of the gashes on his flank, making the throbbing pain flare again. They couldn't go on like this...He couldn't take another step. With a defeated sigh, his legs gave out and her sunk to the ground, too tired and weak to move.
A white she-cat stopped beside him, nudging him, her pelt glowing in the darkness. She had come with her brother and the ginger she-cat when they fled their territory, wanting to make sure they were somewhere safe before she went back to WindClan. "C'mon, Sooty, we need to get moving, it's not safe in the open." she mewed desperately, nudging him again. When her exhausted brother didn't move, her sad blue and green eyes looked at the ginger she-cat, begging her t get him moving.

"Sootfur," she mewed quietly. "Let's go, we can find a better spot if you go a little bit further." She pressed her nose to his pelt, gently nudging him. "C'mon Sootfur, you can do it," she encouraged.

Sootfur's dull amber eyes met Gingerwing's, sighing as he struggled to stand up.
Icestorm shoved her shoulder under her brother, pushing him up and supporting him. "That's it, good on ya'." she purred, glancing over his back to smile at Gingerwing. "See anywhere you guys could spend the night?" she asked the other she-cat.

"There's a hollow oak over there we could try?" suggested the she-cat as she supported Sootfur's other side. Sootfur was barely doing anything with the two she-cats holding him up.

The white she-cat nodded, "Let's hurry." she murmured, heading for the log. Her own injuries stung from the fight, but she had had the easy, practically untrained opponent. Her mismatched eyes flicked around the clearing as her heavy paws bushed over the snow, another glance at the sky told her more snow would be layering the ground by morning. She was itching to be back in camp, wanting to warn her clan of their now dangerous neighbor, but her brother needed her. Her mismatched gaze flicked from the starry sky to look at the ginger she-cat, it seemed obvious that the she-cat cared for her adoptive brother and that he cared for her, too, and she couldn't help but let a smile tug the corner of her lips up.
Sootfur's head drooped, he just wanted to sleep, to forget the pain and betrayal in the world of dreams and peace.

Gingerwing set Sootfur down gently, being careful so as not to hurt the tom further. She watched his injured form with a mask of pain on the she-cat's face. She bent down and licked his injuries clean. She tasted Sootfur's dried blood on his flank, but if this would help the tom, she didn't mind.

Icestorm watched the two LeafClan cats for a moment, before padding forward to press her nose into her brother's black fur. "Take care of yourself," she whispered, then looked at the other she-cat and added, "If you need any help, you know where to find me." With that, she turned away from the other cats, gave her own injuries a quick lick and raced back the way they'd come, itching to be home.
An unsteady purr rumbled in the black tom's chest as Gingerwing's tongue rasped over his fur. He lifted his head weakly to butt his sister's shoulder in farewell and watched her snowy pelt disappear into the darkness. His heart ached and soared at the same time; he wished he could be back with his Clan, with his sister, but, at the same time, he was happy to be here with Gingerwing. He looked at the beautiful she-cat's face, seeing the pain there, and his heart dropped to his paws.

Gingerwing layed down next to him, still licking him gently. "You know I'll always be here for you, right?" she asked, pausing for a second to ask her question before resuming to clean his wounds. She figured she'd gotten everything, and then she remembered-poppy seeds! She had smelled some on the breeze. She picked up a few poppy seeds on her paw and handed them to Sootfur, nosing them towards him gently.

Sootfur let his head flop back onto the log, eyes drifting closed, "I know." he purred, lifting his head again to press his muzzle to hers. He blinked as she left the log, but relaxed as she enter. "Thanks." he purred, lapping up the seeds.
